(New Straits Times) - Yesterday, it was Perak Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali's turn to swear his innocence.
The former menteri besar said he was not involved in any political conspiracy or plan that had resulted in the arrest of two Pakatan Rakyat state executive councillors for corruption this week.
"In the name of God, I have nothing to do with their arrest. Wallahi, Wabillahi, Watallahi. I am not behind their arrest by the Anti-Corruption Agency," he said at a press conference at the Perak Umno building.
Tajol Rosli, who is also Perak Barisan Nasional chief, said if Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin was not satisfied with the way he had sworn then Nizar or Pas could enlighten him on the proper way to do so.
"They (Pas and Nizar) may say that this is not the proper way. So they can show me how to do it properly and then I will swear as many times as they want, no problem.
"But, I want Nizar to swear at the same time, date and venue with me if they want me to swear according to their way.
"I will swear that I am innocent and he can swear that I am guilty of conspiring against the two exco members, him and the state government."
He said Nizar and senior exco member Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, in their reactions to the arrest of exco members Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, had uttered slanderous remarks against him by alleging that he (Tajol Rosli) had orchestrated the arrests.
He also challenged Ngeh to swear that he (Tajol Rosli) was behind the arrests.
"He can swear according to his belief. Maybe, if he is a Christian he can swear accordingly or if he wants to do it the Chinese way then he can potong ayam (slaughter a chicken) at a temple.
"But, if he is going to slaughter the chicken then I want Perak MCA organising secretary Dr Mah Hang Soon, state Gerakan chief Datuk Chang Ko Youn and state PPP chairman Datuk Lee Heng to bear witness to Ngeh's swearing."
Tajol Rosli surprised all those at the press conference when he swore his innocence during the question-and-answer session with reporters.
This was because minutes earlier, when reading from a prepared text claiming his non-involvement in the recent events, he said that he would be ready to swear if required to clear his name.
Tajol Rosli said he was also thinking of taking legal action against Nizar and Ngeh, adding that he would decide on the matter in a week's time.
